The rate

One week is $950. Every additional week lowers the weekly rate by $10 — and the lower rate then applies to your whole stay, not only to the extra weeks.

Length of stayWeekly rateTotal
1 week$950$950
2 weeks$940$1,880
3 weeks$930$2,790
4 weeks$920$3,680
5 weeks$910$4,550
6 weeks$900$5,400
7 weeks$890$6,230
8 weeks$880$7,040

Two or more people

If you are coming with someone — a partner, a friend, a family, a parent with children — there is a discount, and it is worked out for your group rather than taken off a chart. It depends on how many of you there are, how long you are staying, and whether there are children in the group. Tell us who is coming when you write and the discount will be in the written quote we send you, before you pay anything. It is applied to the whole stay.

Longer than eight weeks: the same rule continues — $10 off the weekly rate for each further week. Prices are in US dollars, per student, and include all applicable Costa Rican taxes. The same rate applies all year; there is no high or low season.

A week, hour by hour

The shape of every week is the same. What fills the afternoons changes.

Before class
You walk to the print shop in the village and collect the material written for you the evening before, based on what you did the day before.
Morning, Mon–Fri
Class from 8:00 to 12:00, with a short break around ten. One-to-one with a certified teacher, at the teacher’s house. Twenty hours a week in total.
Midday
Lunch. Normally with your host family, though you are free to eat on your own or at another time.
Afternoon
Four activities a week, typically 2:30pm to 6:00pm, each led by an instructor. Vocabulary for each activity is prepared with your teacher that morning.
When it swaps
Some activities only happen in the morning — milking, for one. On those days class moves to the afternoon, 1:00 to 5:00. The twenty hours are the same either way.
Evening
Dinner with the family, around 7pm. Your teacher writes the next day’s material from what you did that day.
Weekends
Free. Students are with their host family and may travel independently.
Activities are not chosen from a fixed menu in advance. They are built around your level, your interests and what is actually happening in the village that week — the season, the farm work, the river. Over twenty different activities run here; four of them in any given week.

Who provides what

So it is clear where responsibility sits.

Classes
Taught by our own certified teacher, contracted directly by us. We are responsible for them.
Activities
Designed and run by us, with our own instructors. They are not sold on to a tour operator. We are responsible for them.
Accommodation and meals
Provided by host families in the village, selected, visited and contracted directly by us. We remain your point of contact and we are responsible for arranging a replacement if a placement does not work.
Transfers
Driven by licensed local drivers we contract and pay directly. We arrange and are responsible for the booking. The San José transfer is a long run and is confirmed with a $125 deposit in advance.

Insurance

Spanish Language Bootcamp S.A., trading as Spanish Immersion Costa Rica, holds a civil liability policy with the Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS), the Costa Rican state insurer. A copy of the current policy is available on request.

This policy covers the company’s liability in the operation of the programme. It is not travel insurance and it is not personal medical cover. Every student should arrange their own travel and medical insurance before travelling, covering medical treatment, repatriation, cancellation and personal belongings. We will ask you to confirm you have done so before you arrive.

What we are responsible for

WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Delivering the hours of class, meals, accommodation and activities set out above; the suitability and conduct of the teachers, instructors, drivers and host families we contract; your safety during programme activities; replacing a host family or an activity if something becomes unsuitable; and telling you honestly and promptly when something has to change.

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR

Anything you do in your own free time, at weekends or outside programme hours; your flights, visas or travel documents; your personal belongings; medical costs; or loss caused by weather, road conditions, strikes, illness or other events outside our control.

IF WE CANNOT DELIVER

If an activity cannot run, we replace it with another of comparable value in the same week. If we cannot deliver a full week of classes for a reason on our side, those class hours are made up later in your stay or refunded at the published weekly rate.

How often this is reviewed

This programme, its itinerary and its rates are reviewed once a year, each November, and at any point where an activity, a supplier or a cost changes materially. Rates are published with a validity date and are honoured for every booking confirmed while that date stands. The review date and the validity date on this page are updated at each review.

Ask us about a week

Tell us roughly when you would like to come and what your Spanish is like now, and we will write back with a plan and a price.
